Lèon/Lew

Each year in late November thousands of people come to see the spectacle that happens over León de los Aldama. I was one of them. Hunger to see colourful balloons hanging over blue skies of Guanajuato. Going there I was really fooling myself that maybe, possibly I could fly one of them. Expecting the best I arrived in the city in the late afternoon.

Some people says that León is not well worth a Mess and the only reason to go there is to buy a leather belt or a pair of artesian cowboy boots. Sometimes it it better not to listen to some people. It appears that in spite of it's size, the city is friendly and people are very helpful. I took the first bus and within one hour (!) I was at the Millennium Park where the festival was happening...
I approach the information

Me: So, where can I see balloons?
Guy: Well, they flew away in the morning. You have to be here from 6:30 to 7:30 to see them, the pilots starts blowing balloons in the dawn to depart with the first rays of the sun. But today it was the last day...
Me: No balloons, at all?
Guy: Well, in couple of hours there is The Night of Light and Music, stay over, balloon will made a night show.
Me: Ufff.
What can I do -I though -I am staying. I went to hang around and check out the place, hoping to eat some nice quesadillas or tacos.
The sunset was long and warm, like from the music video of Empire of The Sun for We Are The People... Bored with bad music of local bands and families with screaming kids running around I was awaiting the night and the spectacle.
Just before dusk in the far away I saw a flame of an open fire, an then the next one and next one. I realized that they are coming. It was pretty cool I must say. Cheered crews coming on the massive, massive pick-ups and lighting it's way with fire form burner.
In couple of minutes, when it was almost bright form the fire There where almost two hundreds balloons! And they start rising one buy one in the rhythms (isn't it cliché) of Eye of the Tiger and belching fire. My jaw was scraping along the ground. Hell yeah.

When I got back to the town it was almost midnight and it seems like no one cares it is so late, the streets on the downtown where packed, the eateries on the main square was full of people, teenagers were hanging out on the park benches, kids were running around.
I looked around and I realized that on the main square you can Pizza or Pizza or Pizza and for the desert Gelatti (there was also one Chinese place, but is it even worth to mention it). I rubbed my eyes and checked again. It was like a bad dream. Why?
It was such a pity. Mexican style pizza comes from USA, not from Italy. Honestly the only common thing is the name, well pronounced in a wrong way:) So I had a bad pizza with Queso Amarillo and a pitcher of a Mexican finest beer to kill the taste of fat.

In almost every city on the main square or the main street there are bboys dancing. Leon is not an exeption and there will be nothing, nothing special about it, besides the fact that there where also musicians with them. They where playing and singing pre-Hispanic music (!) and bboy were doing their tricks. Surprisingly it worked very well!

I left Guantajuato to see Queretaro, supposedly one of the greatest colonial cities.

Wszyscy chcą zobaczyć ogromne a lekkie balony.

Zamknij oczy.

Zaspokoiwszy niedający wcześniej spokoju głód dojrzałem duża grupę ludzi zgromadzoną wokół mniejszej grupy ludzi i muzykę. A tu niespodzianka. Pięcioosobowy zespół grał na bębnach i instrumentach o bliżej nieznanej mi nazwie, z pewnością jednak pochodzenia majowego lub azteckiego a przed nimi breakdancowo pląsali chłopcy i dziewczęta. Zachwycony eklektycznym pomysłem i bądź co bądź gracją dołączyłem to tłumu gapiów klaszcząc i gwiżdżąc po każdym skończonym występie.

Z rana wyruszyłem dalej do Queretaro.
